How to Install an APK File on Your Android Phone

An APK file is the installation file for Android apps. Installing an APK manually (when the app is not from Google Play) is sometimes called "sideloading."

Step 1: Download the APK File

  1. Download the APK file from the website that provides the app (e.g., Promityapp).
  2. The file will typically appear in your phone's "Downloads" folder.

Step 2: Allow Installation from Unknown Sources

Android blocks apps from outside Google Play by default. You'll need to allow it once:

  1. When you try to open the APK, Android will show: "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps."
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Turn on "Allow from this source" for the browser or file manager you're using.
  4. Go back to the APK file.

You only need to enable this for the specific app you downloaded from (such as Chrome).

Step 3: Install the App

  1. Tap the APK file.
  2. Press Install.
  3. Wait a moment while Android installs the app.

Step 4: Open the App

After installation, you can tap Open or find the app in your Apps list.
